Elizabeth Smart to speak in Omaha

Elizabeth Smart, whose abduction as a child gripped the nation, will be speak in Omaha at an awards ceremony honoring healthy workplaces.
Smart was abducted in 2002 and held prisoner for nine months before being returned to her family. She will speak about her life at the April 12 Wellness Council of the Midlands awards presentation.

The luncheon is being held to honor eight of the Midlands' healthiest companies for excellence in wellness promotion at the workplace. The event begins at 11:30 a.m. at the Ramada Plaza Convention Center.

Dr. Joann Schaefer, chief medical officer of the State of Nebraska, will receive the “Spirit of Wellness Award.”

Other award recipients include: Fremont Area Medical Center, Midlands Choice, Mutual of Omaha, SAC Federal Credit Union, SilverStone Group, Visiting Nurse Association, Woodmen of the World Life Insurance Society and Pinnacle Bank in Fremont.
